Summer Picks

I’ll gladly caption this picture! My work teamed up with this local cupcakery called StudeCakers and had them come during a lunchtime to sell their gorgeous creations! Part of the proceeds even went to the AHA – American Heart Association Pittsburgh local chapter!

First row = samoa, maple bacon pancake with YES, that is a mini pipette of syrup and strawberry milkshake with mini straw and malted ball

Second row = cookies ‘n cream with a truffled Oreo ball inside, duplicate of that maple bacon and a chocolate chip cookie dough

For this amazing presentation, these gems were $2 each, which is slightly lower than less fancy cupcakes at local bakeries!

I won another Pinchme beauty giveaway! This collab featured this ultra chic beauty company called Poppy & Pout and includes the following:

-3 full size body scrubs

-3 full size citrusy lip balms

The packaging had no plastic in it so I unfortunately pushed too enthusiastically at my lip balm and now it’s stuck at that height. There’s no way to push it back down so…just gotta use this sucker as is! That Lime Rush flavor is so refreshing and summery! Just wish the smell would linger longer! Feels great and isn’t waxy at all on your lips. I highly recommend you check Poppy & Pout out!

This is the current shower gel I’m using and boy, does bath time feel like a treat! I got this from Memebox last year and am still not over the fact they don’t sell any of their amazing beauty boxes anymore or have a loyalty points system. I was their biggest fan. Anyways, here’s my take on this Happy Bath grapefruit sparkling ale body wash:

Pros:

smells like bubbly wine + real grapefruit! Nothing artificial

packaging is just too cute; like a pint of beer

lathers well

smell actually lingers on you after you dry off!

Cons:

hard to use on loofah

too runny and comes out really quickly

half the bottle is just foam and the actual product is very little

expensive!

Uhhhh, this is just the fanciest, tastiest drink I’ve ever had. This bottle is so dangass tiny though. It tastes like a sparkling, slightly tart lemonade with a fragrant rose smell! Packaging, color, taste, just all awesome! It was like $3 at Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop. For special occasions only, lol.

Y’all gotta check out Little Poppy Co. It’s a monthly subscription for bows and headbands and the designs are just too cute! Here is August’s! Can’t wait for my biddyboo to have longer, nicer hair to be able to flaunt some of these!

Today is this little angeldoll’s FIRST birthday! To think, this exact time last year, I was a bulbous mess going into the OR for my spinal block…oh glob, I’m so glad that’s over because LOOK WHAT I MADE! She is my joy!

Baby Shower + Craziness

This is the craziness part of my post. Two weeks ago, I had just gotten off work, pulled out of the parking lot and was going straight in my own lane when a Subaru Forester T-boned me all because he didn’t look left when he was making his right turn. There was no way I could have even stopped to let him in because he turned the exact moment I drove past–what a winner. Just look at the damage he did to my poor lil Civic! This guy’s wife hopped out of the car and had the gall to tell me off for driving too fast. Lady, the speed limit is 35 on this road and since I had JUST pulled out of my work parking lot before being rammed by your husband, the max I could have been going was realistically around 18 mph. A bystander had to point out the fact that I was pregnant because it didn’t even dawn on the actual driver. That lady was like, “Oh my, gosh, she’s pregnant!” Yep, hit by an 80-year old man while 8 months pregnant and being yelled at by his ignorant wife. What a Thursday. The policeman called an ambulance and I took a quick trip to the ER where the NP used the doppler to hear my baby’s heartbeat.

What I’ve learned from this incident that there are ZERO consequences for an at-fault accident in the state of PA. Basically, this terrible driver does not have to pay his own deductible for his vehicle’s repairs, his rate for his insurance will not rise for next year and he does not even get a ticket from the police for not yielding when turning onto a main road. WOW.

Can’t do any work with my Pangur Ban all cute like this. She is decidedly less cute in the mornings when she repeatedly bites me for no reason though.

This is the mint brownie milkshake from Red Robin. It was good but in hindsight, soggy brownie pieces at the bottom of a chocolate shake was not the best idea. I think I preferred the Oreo pieces for a bit of a crunchy texture but oh, well. Can’t complain too much about a milkshake.

Behold the perfect cake pop set amongst my gorgeous hydrangeas. My baby shower went well and it was super fun. I should mention super tiring for me as well since my out of town guests stayed several days. I was excited for this event but also relieved that it’s over :). My sister did a great job with the decorations and desserts. I got to see so many of my Ohio State friends and even rounded up a bridesmaids reunion! Now I am a little more prepared for my baby girl with all the onesies, diapers and accessories I received!

I’m not a fan of my current mani, funnily enough. The color in the bottle looked lilac fo sho but on my nails, it looks like the same exact pastel pink I chose for last month! Grrr…China Glaze, you shady! I tried this Trust Fund Beauty $12 Latte shade on my accent nail and topped it off with a micro glitter coat but it’s still not doing much for me. I think it’s too muddy and dark of a brown and the contrast with this chalky pink color is not great at all. I’ll probably only wait 1 more week to change this one up. No more pinks!

I’m reading The Clockwork Dynasty by Daniel Wilson right now and it’s pretty interesting. The narrative goes back and forth between time periods and 2 sets of main characters. I have an advanced reading copy from Goodreads but have not seen any typos so far–always a great sign!

2 Weddings and a Funeral

What a whirlwind of a month for me! This upcoming weekend will be the only one since a month ago that I will be able to sleep in a bit on my own king sized bed. September = the death of me!

This pic is from my most recent wedding in St. Mary’s, OH of my Ohio State friend! The banquet hall felt like a high school cafeteria and the sash definitely doesn’t help the image, haha. The hubs and I look like homecoming couple 2016, lol! We had loads of fun and I relished every Ohio/Buckeye-tinged moment.

Jess’s wedding ensured that I got to see my good pal Brittany this year. Check out those danger-zone aviators! Right after getting home from the wedding, I was actually inspired to watch Top Gun. How appropriate is that?

This is my fave pic of daddy + daughter. Pangur Ban looks resigned, haha!

What a gorgeous lace wedding dress Jess is rocking! It was tied up with custom hot pink satin straps in the back and trimmed with hot pink lace at the bottom! I also dug the modern birdcage veil she chose in lieu of a cathedral length one.

All 8 Ohio State grads lining up for an epic double O-H-I-O shot! I felt honored to be the only invitee from the class of ’10. Everyone else was reppin’ class of 2009!

Can’t believe the cake and the cupcakes were made by Jess’s mom and sister! I sampled blackberry/lemon, pumpkin cheesecake and peanut butter chocolate!

Instead of a photobooth rental, Jess opted for a selfie station complete with selfie sticks! What a cute idea!

This has got to be the prettiest china pattern I’ve ever seen. Every piece was different. I never drink tea at a wedding but this arrangement propelled me!

John’s grandma’s burial site. We traveled to Long Island to attend her wake, funeral service and burial service. It was good seeing his family members and to pay respects at this time. Grandma Mary will be remembered :).

Upstate rural NY wedding of John’s friend Adam, who coincidentally enough served as the officiant at our wedding! We’re all connected, yay! They had it on the farm property of called Maple Ridge and had some of the fanciest food served at a wedding I’ve attended. Entrees included: coq au vin, roast beef with au jus, roasted farmhouse veggies, garlic cream risotto! The cocktail hour had baked honey brie, bacon wrapped dates, grilled jumbo shrimp and stuffed mushrooms! It was scenic and intimate and the only thing I would add is a proper public bathroom! All guests were encouraged to pee in the woods, however there was a bathroom in someone’s cabin for emergencies…

Before the wedding, we explored Saratoga Spa State Park and got to taste all the fresh mineral water springs! I had such a blast!

Random roadside restaurant near Scranton, PA on the way to the wedding that we stopped at. It was a Japanese steak house and pretty fancy! Check out the scrumptious teriyake beef and pork yaki bowl! So much mmmm…

Revlon nude rose polish with a topcoat of micro glitter polish from H&M. The accent nail is Beauty Trust Fund in Elegantly Wasted from my Ipsy bag. I’m modeling atop the book I was reading at the time: The Nightingale. It’s a WWII story centering on the sacrifices and relationship of 2 sisters in France. I liked that it was based off the real life of a Belgian teenage woman who risked her life to help get downed Allied pilots to safety across the Pyrenees.

Nom Noms

Mmmm…I just wanted to share a few recent culinary finds from Cleveland and Pittsburgh.

2015/01/img_2229.jpg

These lovely cupcakes were from a fancy Beachwood Mall stand. There is another cupcakery but this one had more flavors (and a higher price tag). Cindy got the pumpkin cheesecake one with a thin graham cracker crust and I wolfed down the cookies ‘n cream peanut butter storm. We skipped lunch for these.2015/01/img_2251.jpg

It’s always such a treat to shop at the Strip District but rarely is the process of getting there enjoyable. This time we left at 10am on a Sunday to secure free metered parking and less traffic on 376. The result? Ample shopping time at Lotus Foods, the surrounding farmer’s markets and a stop to get my pho fill. I’m the noodle bowl queen so of course I had to get the huge bowl of pho. I just love that it comes with Thai basil, crisp bean spouts, a lime wedge and jalapenos. The meat you see are thin strips of flank steak and the rich color is the excessive amount of Sriracha sauce I used ;). Somehow, I always get bolder with hot sauce at restaurants. This is my type of weekend lunch. The hubby opted for a tall glass of Vietnamese coffee and for someone who doesn’t even like coffee, I found it delicious. There was a taste of rich chicory, plenty of cream and lots of sugar! However, I won’t be going there often because they are a cash-only place.

2015/01/img_2246.jpgA simple Shop N Save visit turned into a smorgasbord purchase. Literally the first item I grabbed was this big English toffee caramel marble cake. It’s definitely yielded some generous servings but it won’t be long before every but of caramel and toffee are licked up!

Dreamy Sweets

As an early birthday treat, the hubby went downtown to the famed Pittsburgh Prantls Bakery and brought back some mini cupcakes. The ones here are white chocolate raspberry and burnt almond torte. Mmmmm…after trying mini cupcakes, I don’t think I could even go back to the regular sized ones with only one type of frosting. In the fridge, two other flavors await me! They went well with the glass of white wine and action movie that we put on, haha–X-Men: Days of Future Past. I had about two sips of the wine in all but aesthetically, it paired well with the cakes.

This, my friends, is the gorgeous chocolate raspberry tart made by my coworker from scratch! No baking required! She used chocolate graham cracker and butter as the crust, heavy whipping cream, pureed raspberries and semi-sweet chocolate chips for the filling. Marvelous and not overly sweet. Desserts with fruit are my favorite kind. I look forward to hosting grand dinner parties at my new home with plenty of entertainment space when I move!

Bridal Shower

20140102-160035.jpg

My mother and sister in law threw a bridal shower for me over my holiday break on Long Island. It was perfectly lovely and I had the best time getting to know more of my fiance’s family as well as their family friends. I chose this 50’s style black/white polka dot satin dress, a mint green statement necklace and cobalt blue suede pumps to wear for this occasion.

20140102-160158.jpg

Here are the delicious lemon cream cupcakes they made! There were fancy tea sandwiches (cucumber, caviar, cream cheese, sliced smoked salmon, salmon spread), a fruit sherbet punch and a wide assortment of pre-prepared appetizers from Trader Joe’s (baked parmesan chicken bites, bacon-wrapped scallops, baked mushroom caps, spinach pastry…mmm…). There were games planned and such beautiful vintage prints and decorations!

20140102-160240.jpg

What a beautiful display of the shower favors! These are colored washcloths wrapped into cupcake shapes and brown glass bottles filled with vanilla bubble bath. My sister in law even customized the stickers with the wedding date and personal art! I just LOVE the doilies and glass cake stand!

Birthday Meal for Hubby

20130830-180133.jpg

I know, I’m kind of an awesome girlfriend–went all out to create John’s favorite meal for his birthday.

Ingredients: thick Asian glass noodles, sautéed shrimp, chopped broccoli, bamboo shoots, scallions, garlic, snow peas and fresh lime.
Sauce: peanut butter, chili powder, soy sauce, grape seed oil, sesame oil, garlic salt

Signature cocktail: iced tea, Midori, lychee syrup garnished with a lychee and lime slice. Tropical bliss!

Oh yeah, and I got him handcrafted cupcakes from a local European bakery. That is a pecan carrot cake and cappuccino flavor 🙂
