Beachy Mani

I used an old Essie favorite: Turquoise & Caicos (Turks and Caicos being a destination I eventually want to venture to) and a marshmallow color from China Glaze on the accent nail. I added a metallic dragonfly nail sticker too; this time with a clear topcoat to seal the deal!

My hand is posing on top of the current book I’m reading called Dream of Ding Village. I admit I picked it up because of my namesake being in the title but when I read that it’s based off the real life story of the blood bank scandal in Henan province back in the ’90s, I thirsted to learn more about this event. Unhygienic equipment was used on many blood donors and hundreds of people were infected with AIDS as a result.

This was the feast laid out during the long weekend of July 4th where I spent it with my family in Cleveland. A new ramen bar just opened and we took my fam out to celebrate my mom’s birthday. Look at those milky bowls of tonkotsu broth! My dad was the only one to opt out of the ramen and try the seafood tom yum bowl. He was disappointed and definitely ordering ramen next time! I got to satisfy my pork belly cravings! My picky eater mom loved her chashao (aka char siu) pork bowl. Here’s my full review on Yelp: http://www.yelp.com/biz/otani-noodle-cleveland-3.

Another round of blossoms bloomed on my grounds and I made another bouquet. These wildflowers actually made it this year! How gorgeous is that fuchsia flower?!

Independence Mani

Check it out! It’s my own modified 4th of July mani! Pink, sky blue and cream always screams independence to me ;). I used Essie’s Bachelorette Party and Bikini So Teeny. Then I used 2 thick layers of this Sally Hansen French manicure nude color as the accent and topped it off with Victoria’s Secret gold glitter topcoat!

My gorgeous water lilies bloomed in my own pond! They bloom during the day and shyly fold back into a bulb at night. It was totally hard capturing this.

My favorite color of day lilies has to be the mauve and yellow blooms. This year, I even got some daisies!

Mimiboo holds my hand for comfort. We haven’t had a kitten moment for a while so I stayed in this one position for 20 minutes. So…stiff…must…keep cat from jumping off…

Matte Mani

This picture makes the gold look all shiny but it is not. This OPI Gwen Stefani holiday edition gold is a refreshingly pale with a smooth matte finish. It dries so quickly and just looks super chic. The alternating lilac color is from Trust Fund Beauty. Their brushes are wide and full and provide great coverage. The gold chips pretty quickly but this purple lasts a while.

I am going gaga over all the flowers blooming around my house. They are really taking their time this year! This time last year, I had every color of day lilies and hydrangeas. My favorite of the bunch always bloom first and this time I managed to capture the rare beauty! Look at that rich, lush violet color with a bold prick of complementary yellow. Gorgeous! These do well right in my pond so I don’t have to water them! My water lilies have bloomed this year too but for some reason they close up at night and I can never get a picture. Sneaky things…

My Mimiboo makes her appearance! She is 1 year old now and coming up on our adoption anniversary (June 28th). I know this date so well yet I question when I got my marriage license all the time. Seriously–like August 13th? 16th? My husband knows this date.

October Times

Fall mani time! Of course, I waited 5 days before taking a good pic of my mani so you will see some inevitable chipping. This true, smooth blue is brought to you by Sephora polish and the ring finger is brought to you by Bikini So Teeny Essie! As you can see, Essie is doing okay but the Sephora is chipping steadily…I must be into opaque blues because I have 4 super similar shades by 4 different brands.
A killer frost swept over the Pittsburgh lands last weekend so that my beautiful zinnias that I grew from seeds all died. Are they perennials? Will they come back automatically next year? They sure are lovely and come in a variety of colors! This one here is my favorite batch yet.

I can’t really figure out what the pale orchid wildflowers are. They suddenly popped up on my front lawn out of no where after I came back from China. They were rather cute so I put them in a vase. I have a sneaking suspicion they are actually weeds but it would have to be my favorite weed ever!
And at last! I have reunited with my fur goblin baby! Pangur Ban is at home after her vacay at my parents’ house. She made a new friend and got plenty of love and socializing. Now she is back destroying my silk flower arrangements and scratching my all tweed outfits. Note to self–do NOT wear tweed outfits around kittens!

Lilac Days

New week, new mani! I just got this in my Ipsy bag. I took a 2-month hiatus from Ipsy because I was disappointed with my May bag. I put in my profile that I do not want lipglosses, haircare items or eyeshadows and of course, all 3 of those items appeared in my bag. The May bag was a plain canvas material and had words on it–pretty ugly compare to what Ipsy usually churns out.

But yeah, the August bag is 80% cool for me. I LOVE the houndstooth bag first of all, and my fave product of all is the full size nail polish! It retails for $15 on Trust Fund’s website. This dark lilac tone is called Elegantly Wasted; very Essie-esque. It brushes on so smoothly and 2 coats is all you need for that perfect opaque goodness. On the ring fingers, I brushed on Sally Hansen’s 3D fuzzy effect. It’s a huge pain to remove but it’s a fun tactile novelty! The down side is that Trust Fund’s staying power is weak. This is the 3rd day of my manicure and I see chips already!

Just wanted to show off my H&M floral print summer dress. It’s a struggle getting in this thing because it has absolutely no stretch. Oy vey. This picture was taken at a NH park on the very top of a watchtower!

More pretty flower pictures from the pretty Elizabeth Park in CT!

Happy Friday, bloggers!

Garden Delights

Without any prior planning, purchasing, seeding or really any maintenance, I found that at this time of year, I have multi-colored day lilies blooming all around my property!  This one is my particular favorite. The color really is spectacular–a deep pinkish fuchsia with subtle white stripes and a warm yellow center. It is such a surprise and delight to discover these blooming after such a dreary winter.

Now these here are the tangerine/coral variety and have recently spouted up all over my front yard. I cut several buds and arranged them in a pretty vase. I also forgot that they are day lilies; meaning they bloom and wilt within a period of a day. When they bloom, they are large and magnificent. When they wilt, they get this awful purple juice on my white wicker furniture. Maybe they don’t make the best table centerpiece indoors, but I thought it would brighten up my sunroom so much!

These lovelies are my hydrangeas. I only know this variety of flower from Harry Potter book 5 :). Just look at these velvety, lush petals! The pink is vibrant and the lavender shade is mixed with a je ne sui pas hint of periwinkle. Beautiful! These last much longer than the day lilies as home decor pieces. They have been going for a week strong now!

Mid-July mani time! I used H&M mint shade on the bluish side and drew a vertical stripe using an e.l.f metallic pink. I like the pastel/pool like they create.

This past weekend, my OSU gals paid me a quick visit! We went hiking and frisbee throwing in Frick park. Check out our daring ravine escapade!

This image is courtesy of my friend Lauren (from above). She enjoyed my landscaping efforts and wanted to capture the spirit of our pond/waterfall from this view.

Display Ideas

IMG_2264

Yup, that’s right. I’m using this bamboo 3-tier serving tea tray like a champ. This sucker helped free my pretty bottles of nail polish from their prisons of separate boxes, totes and packages. The display aspect is the best but I also like the easy access of choosing from all my colors without having to rummage around forever in a cramped box. The 3-size system also correspond perfectly to the small, medium, full size categorization of my bottles. I figure nail salons do this, why not at home too? Go for a boastful nail polish display too if you have the closet space or flat surface real restate for it!

I recently bought an all-out extravagant bouquet for my mom when she was visiting my new house because I knew it would delight her and also add that cheery vibe to a new house. Not that I didn’t know this from before but FLOWERS ARE EXPENSIVE. Oh my jibbers, they are such a perfect business if you ever just want to throw money at something frivolous. I’m not your average roses and flowers type of girl, (I would much rather enjoy gifts of makeup or food) so paying $110 for 25-something stems of live decor is over the top ridiculous to me. However, fresh flowers already have that reputation so all I can do is contribute to this industry. Anyways…the value aside, the presentation was beautiful. Plus, there were so many stems in the one vase that I had enough to pull some out to make a nice little dining room table centerpiece. I cut down the long stems, pruned some of the leaves, took a few filler stems and arranged them as such. The two small side vases have silk gerber daises (I am all about fake flowers that last!) and remnants of my Diamond Candle wax pieces. The leftover wax chunks that I could have thrown out are now everlasting scent blocks for a surprisingly strong fragrance! People leaning over to smell the real flowers will actually get a whiff of the scented soy wax and be impressed that they smell like apricot fig. It’s my little secret ;).
