Shiny Objects

Pregnancy is hard, y’all. I’m miserable 24/7 with all my never-ending symptoms of nausea, vomiting, heat strokes, sore hips, clumsiness, and many many more. I’ve hit the 18th week marker and I’m still throwing up with the gusto of any first trimester mom. What gives?!

Online shopping is pretty therapeutic so I bought myself a ring. And oh, what a ring! This might be the prettiest ring I own right now! It’s a 3-stone champagne morganite with CZ stones all up around it set in sterling silver. The stones are lab created but so what? Gorgeous as can be! Don’t mind my chipping manicure as you stare into its amber depths.

Now this is the ring that my hubby chose for me on Valentine’s Day, or more accurately, as a present for carrying his child. It’s the hardest thing I’ll ever do. So this massive thing is a pink tourmaline cut in a cabochon style set in 10K yellow gold. It’s big and bold but not my style so we went back to exchange and resize.

This beauty is very special to me. I felt like a giddy high roller in that jewelry shop as I designed my own custom ring from scratch! The shop had many natural gems to choose from but I ended up selecting this brilliant cut peridot as it’s the birthstone of my hubby and also of my unborn child. Just look at that delightful pear green hue! Then I chose a 14K white gold setting with 2 mini side stone diamonds. How simple and classy is this ring? It did cost a pretty penny but this particular jewelry store didn’t have a return policy so we had to exchange it for at least that value and more. The band looks fine in pictures but there is hardly any weight and feel to it. Half of it is hollow and super light. I do prefer simple, non-stone studded bands but I don’t mind a little heft and weight to them!

April Mani

To combat the gloom of incessant rain, cloud temperatures and cloudiness, I opted for a vibrant, posh pink mani complete with some glitz! I used:

Essie’s Madison Ave-hue and Victoria’s Secret’s Showstopper. I also put on a Diamond Candles ring that wasn’t a size 10. Well…it was a size 7 so it still didn’t fit me but the citron is definitely eye-catching! I usually just get plain boring old white/clear stones so this is great for me. It also looks like it could pass for a lemony topaz, my birthstone!

This month, most of my big girl allowance (from myself, lol) went to purchases on Poshmark. That, and the mortgage, but I won’t talk about that. For most of last year and this year, I had been using this awesome app to sell things from my own closet. It’s rather cathartic to clear clothes, makeup, perfumes, shoes and make sure the things I don’t use anymore go to someone who will give them some lovin’! Lately, I’ve been using it to shop and boy, it’s addicting! The flat shipping fee of $5 is most def a deterrent to buying lower-price items, so the trick is to find multiple items you like from a seller and create a bundle. I have found that people are usually pretty nice about discounts and some are even nice enough to add a beauty sample or two! I know I always add a pair of free earrings, a lipgloss, a lotion sample, eyeshadow, ring, etc. for people that bundle or buy something for over $10. Just in the last 2 weeks, I have been guilty of purchasing from 6 separate sellers, totaling up to $118 with $20 of that going to just shipping. There was thankfully a sale on shipping when a seller lowers the price of their item by at least 10%. That sounds like a lot but I also got a lot! I even secured the perfect floral dress for a summer wedding! I was also in the market for a new toner and I snagged a pre-owned Estee Lauder toner for only $7 that will last me probably 5 months! Anyways, I’m going to try to REALLY restrain myself not to “like” everything on all those girls’ closets, so here’s to hoping I make some sales of my own sometime to catch up with my makeup and fashion addiction ;).

Sea Shells by the Sea Shore

20140731-092352-33832500.jpg

From my latest trip in Long Island, I spent half a day collecting gorgeous shells by the beach. I decided to turn these two into cute little jewelry holders. They would be functional and so pretty to look at on display atop your armoire or nightstand.

I painted a few layers of acrylic paint in Tiffany blue and gray to get them really opaque. Then I alternated the colors and mixed them with my pearlescent paint on the inside. The inside is what would be on display so I took extra attention. Waiting for them to patiently dry was the hardest part! But here they are–diy ring or earring holders! One will be a gift for my sister and one will be for a good friend. I have many more shells in varying sizes and cannot wait to craft them into other jewelry holders, soap dishes, candles even or decor for a shadowbox!

Rose Box – Tuesday Night Crafting!

20140611-134423-49463407.jpg

I took an old, unused cardholder and jazzed it up! I painted the exterior and interior with a neutral taupe and lined the inside with a dark brown. Acrylic paints go so smoothly over wood surfaces. After waiting for it to dry, I applied my special Urban Decay rose stencil, swiped it with glue and poured a copious amount of purple glitter! I used a fan brush to sweep the extra off and unstuck the sticker template. There you have it–a refurbished jewelry box, gift box, business card holder or playing cardholder!

John bequeathed his immortality to me in the Christmas of 2011. Since then, I have found momentous occasions to wear this stunning piece of authentic LOTR jewelry out. It especially delights me when someone recognizes it and tries to remember the name of Arwen’s necklace. John had the idea when we were re-watching The Two Towers and The Noble Collection pamphlet fell out. There were a lot of useless, overpriced collectibles like Gandalf’s staff and Gimli’s axe, but there were also beautiful replicas of the one ring and elven jewelry. It was the perfect gift for a girly, fashionable nerd like me :).
